Giving Back to Guatemala

Guatemala is very near and dear to my heart and since adoptions have closed the orphanages need a great deal of help. I had the pleasure of creating business stationary for a new organization called Across All Borders. Across All Borders is working with orphanages in Guatemala to help improve the lives of the orphans. It was so wonderful to be able to help and supoprt this wonderful organization!

The executive director of Across All Borders was kind of enough to put a review on her blog about the work I did for their organization. Check out the review here.

Here is the stationary I designed for Across All Borders:

Your Guide to the Perfect Birth Announcements

So you just had a baby, congratulations! A perfect way to let everyone know about your newborn baby is with a photo birth announcement. Your household is already in chaos with a new baby, why add the stress of trying to put together hundreds of announcements when you can affordably hire someone to do all the work? While there are many affordable designers available, you still should know some basic information to get started. Follow these easy tips so you can relax and know what to expect when the time comes to send out the perfect announcement.

What do I stick on a birth announcement anyway?

You may stick anything you want on a birth announcement, but there are a few items usually found on a standard birth announcement you should consider including, such as:

-Baby Photo

Who doesn’t love a great photo? Relatives and friends will be on pins and needles waiting to see what your new treasure looks like. Does he have daddy’s nose? Does she have eyes like yours? Including a photo is the most important thing you can include, although you shouldn’t limit yourself to just one photo. Depending on the size of the birth announcement you may even choose to include 3-4 additional photos of your new born. Usually the photo is just of your beautiful baby itself, family pictures can be included later on your holiday cards.

-Your Baby’s Name

What’s in a name? In this case…everything! Including your babies name is important to show who they are. You may also consider including what the name means. If you are not sure there are literally thousands of baby name definitions that can be found online and off.

-Include the Essentials

Some items that are essential to include in your photo announcements are the weight of your baby, and the date and time they were born. Friends and relatives enjoy thinking back on where, and what they were doing when your baby was born.

Now that you have a general idea of what to include in a birth announcement, let’s talk styles! The style of birth announcements has changed over the past years. Announcements have been anything ranging from simple to elaborate.

-Colors

Announcements used to follow the unwritten rule of pink for girls and blue for boys. Today it appears these rules have been tossed aside. Some announcements include a variety of colors to complement the birth of your new baby. Colors can be anything from bright colors to dark colors, which may give project feelings ranging from elegance, to the true happiness of the occasion. Ensure that when you choose the colors that they do not become the central focus of the announcement.

-Styles/Themes

Styles also have evolved in the past years to include a variety of themes for your new baby. Some announcements have included polka dots and stripes to spruce up the announcement to convey the joy of the occasion. You might choose to match the announcement to the theme in of the baby’s room, your family’s favorite sport, or where you were when they were born (Who wouldn’t love to have given birth in some tropical paradise?). Just take care as you should with the colors as well, not to take attention from the most important part of the announcement, your baby!

Should you make your own or hire a designer?

Now that you know what you want on your photo announcement you may find that making one photo announcement is fairly easy, but now imagine the time and money spent in making 20, 40 or even hundreds of photo announcements. There are many designers who can quickly make the perfect birth announcement, and not to mention save you a fortune on ink. When searching for a professional, price is definitely a factor and so is quality. Be sure to check for testimonials and examples of work. Are you stuck with premade designs, or do they offer customization? How long will the work usually take, and how much is the shipping? Finding a great professional can relieve much of the stress and give you some much needed time to focus on your beautiful new creation.
